Leicestershire Quarter Sessions Index 1714-1885
Quarter Sessions Index 1714 – 1844
Quarter Sessions (QS) are Courts held four times per year – beginning in January with Epiphany Session, then April with Easter Session, July with Translation Session and October with Michaelmas Session. The cases held at those times refer to the previous three months since the last Court; e.g., most cases heard at the Epiphany QS are dated from mid-October to mid-January. This Index contains almost 18,000 entries.
This Index is an extract of all the Poor Law-related Court Cases held in both Leicestershire County QS and the Borough of Leicester QS and would also have included those for Rutland QS. Unfortunately, all the Rutland QS records have been destroyed, and so have most of the Borough QS, so this Index mainly covers the County QS.
