The Tank Museum

We are delighted to be working in partnership with The Tank Museum Archive & Reference Library.

The Tank Museum holds resources directly related to the Royal Armoured Corps of the British Army, especially the Royal Tank Regiment. The archive preserves and promotes their personal and official documents from 1916 to the present day. The archive is the world's foremost research centre on the subject of armoured warfare.

The archive not only holds records, but also boasts an object collection which includes uniforms, flags, weapons, badges, ammunition and more.

Royal Tank Corps Enlistment Records

Thanks to our partnership with The Tank Museum, you can now search the enlistment records for over 88,000 soldiers who served in the Royal Tank Corps.

The records cover soldiers who joined the Royal Tank Corps between WW1 and WW2 and give you the chance to discover more about your ancestor’s previous military service, uncover useful biographical information and pinpoint when he was discharged.

The documents record other ranks soldiers who joined by:

•Transfer in from the Dragoons, Hussars, Lancers or Machine Gun Corps
•Direct enlistment
•Re-enlistment

The Royal Tank Corps was known as the Tank Corps before 18 October 1923. It was renamed again on 4 April 1939 and is now known as the Royal Tank Regiment.
