Morley & District Family History Group

We are pleased to be working in partnership with the Morley & District Family History Group.

Morley and District Family History Group (MDFHG) was founded 1986 by a group of family historians in the Morley area.

MDFHG is a member of the Family History Federation (FHF) formerly the Federation of Family History Societies (FFHS), and is also an active member of the Yorkshire Group of Family History Societies.

Since 1986 membership has grown steadily with many members’ resident in the UK.  The group now has a sound base of members scattered throughout the world.

The groups research area covers: Adwalton; Ardsley (East and West);  Batley; Beeston; Bruntcliffe; Chidswell; Churwell; Cockersdale; Drighlington; Dunningley; Farnley; Gildersome; Heckmondwike; Holbeck; Hunslet; Lofthouse; Middleton; Morley; New Farnley; Oulton; Rothwell; Thorpe; Tingley; Tong; Topcliffe; Woodkirk; Woodlesford, and all the surrounding hamlets within this area.

Yorkshire Baptisms

The Morley & District Family History Group have contributed to our wealth of vital records for the Yorkshire area. Specifically, the groups contributions cover the Rothwell Holy Trinity Church in West Yorkshire, covering the period 1690-1729.

If you have West Yorkshire ancestry, then these records could be a great starting point for your family history research. Baptism records can help you uncover your ancestor's parent's names and the parish where they were born, helping you to add more branches to your family tree.

Additional information

The Morley & District Family History Group have also contributed burial records to the National Burial Index for England and Wales. This collection allows you to search over 12 million burial records for England and Wales.

MDFHG meetings are held on the 1st Monday of each month (excluding January and August) at 7.00 p.m. for 7.30 p.m. at the Church of the Nazarene, Albion Street, Morley, Leeds.  LS27 9BX.  Guest speakers attend most meetings to deliver lectures on topics of parochial or local interest.  The lectures are listed on the diary pages in the ‘in house’ printed journal Cameo, which is published and circulated to members three times a year.

Evenings are set aside for members to carry out their own research using the resources of the group.

Ø  MDFHG publish three or four indexed transcription booklets every month.

Ø  Through the journal a Members' Interests database is available, which is a very well used asset, with a printed booklet of the database provided free to members every few years.

Ø  An extensive library of books, maps, etc., is maintained and available to members.

Ø  Look-ups are also available from a wide range of resources.
